About us
“A contemporary approach to dance education and performance training.”
What does it mean?
We use technique to inform us, not define us. Our progressive teaching methods focus on using anatomy, imagery and somatic practices to help us better understand what’s going on in our bodies so we can actually ask more of them. We value artistry over conformity and sustainability over aesthetics.
We create a culture of open communication and constant learning that flows between teacher and student, student to teacher, and student to student. Hierarchy is out— curiosity, critical thinking, artistic agency and bodily autonomy are in.
We acknowledge the history of the forms we teach—including hip hop, jazz, and contemporary dance— that have historically been appropriated, by engaging with their lineage, context, and continued evolution. We honor tradition and question convention.
We view dance through a progressive lens that recognizes we are all worthy of experiencing the joy of movement and that there is no one-single-ideal-way of being a dancer.
Our goal is to develop skilled, thoughtful, coachable and collaborative artists who move with both technical proficiency and a deep understanding of themselves, their communities, and the art form they help shape.
